Mel Gibson Learns Hypnosis 06/26/2010
![]() Mel Gibson just did a 10 day private training in hypnosis. This means he can help himself and his family experience incredible levels of relaxation and help with positive reinforcement. You learn alot in hypnosis training, such as what language use is bad for you, how to phrase sentences in a positive way and much more. If Mel Gibson applies what he learns then he can become a great communicator and helper. He may also add a few things to his movies but a movie is itself a trance inducer. A good movie keeps an audience enraptured - laughing, crying, being on the edge of your set etc. are normal in everyone's experience of a good movie. So Mel Gibson is probably a natural at hypnosis. I doubt there is much he could do about hypnosis in his movies unless he actually uses it as a topic in one of his movies. That would be fun especially if he portrays it accurately. I will definitely review it if such a movie comes out! Mel Gibson, Trained In Hypnosis Master of many trades, Oscar winner Mel Gibson, have always spell bounded the views with his acting skills but now, he is all set to hypnotize you. The 54-year-old star, has mastered the power of suggestion and the trick to put people into a trance from a leading Australian expert Rick Collingwood who was a guest to the actor for 10 days. In these ten days, Mel took hypnosis lessons from him. Collingwood was very happy with his new found student. "Mel's a natural, he's got the look as well as piercing blue eyes. He's going to be a great hypnotist," Collingwood said. "Mel's brother Chris has been into...hypnotism for a long time and he talked to Mel about it over the phone and Mel got interested, too," he added. Now, Mel has an additional tool to lure his people and ladies will sure renew their love for the actor. Mel Gibson's eight children are super excited on the new skill of their father. Real Estate Agents Learn Hypnosis 06/23/2010
Real estate agents have begun training in hypnosis language patters to help them close deals. techniques from hypnosis (and NLP) have been used in advertising and sales for years so it is only natural for it to have expanded into real estate sales. Notice that customers can't be controlled but if they do want the house then the agents will be able to sel with greater influence and know what kind of behavior and language can break a deal that would otherwise have gone through. Real estate agents use hypnosis to seal property deals NOW, concentrate solely on my voice . . . real estate agents are using hypnosis to clinch deals. The latest skill in the salesperson's arsenal is to appeal to the subconscious mind of buyers and sellers. But it is far more subtle than waving a pocket watch in front of your face and asking you to count backwards. "It's more along the lines of choosing your words carefully in a way that compels someone that, if they were so inclined, they might take action or it might just increase your odds of someone agreeing with a proposition you might have," said Brisbane-based real estate trainer Glenn Twiddle. "Instead of saying 'Do you mind if I get you to do X, Y and Z?'. It might be 'You don't mind if you do X, Y and Z'. "'Do you' is a question with a yes or no answer. 'You don't mind' is a statement, and unless they really disagree with that statement they might be more inclined to go along with what you say." Mr Twiddle is a qualified clinical hypnotherapist and has been training real estate agents, according to his website, in how to use "advanced language skills, embedded commands and hypnotic principles" in the sales process. But don't think you need to turn up to open houses this weekend with sunglasses and earplugs. "Nobody can hypnotise someone into doing something they don't want to do. I can't hypnotise anybody into buying a house that they weren't in some way inclined to buy," he said. So far the practice is not widespread. "There are about 10,000 agents in Queensland, so there'd be say 10, up to 50 at the most, who do it by design and from practise and learning," Mr Twiddle said. And the good news is buyers and sellers can use the same technique on their agent. "Any seller or buyer who understands these techniques in their everyday life will be a better negotiator. And they can use that with their kids or with their partner. It could be as simple as influencing what's for dinner." Suggestibility is often misunderstood as gullibility. Gullibility is being naïve or easily fooled. Suggestibility is the ability to absorb new ideas and can be correlated with a high IQ. That means that smarter people with good imaginations tend to be less gullible and more suggestible. A good leader is someone who is highly suggestible. The good leader will absorb all the ideas/solutions presented to him/her and then make a decision based on what is right for the situation if they already have the knowledge to know which suggestions are right and which are wrong. If the leader needs to learn more before deciding then all suggestions will remain on his/her mind until he/she can eliminate the ones that research don’t confirm. Being suggestible has nothing to do with mind control. A gullible person will accept all suggestions without any investigation. Being suggestible is not only a sign of intelligence but it shows your imagination is strong as well. Being 100% suggestible means that you can absorb new ideas easily – with fear or doubt – and then you can sort the false from the true and take action accordingly. So being highly suggestible is a very desirable trait for success. In hypnosis suggestions are made for changing habits or ideas or even beliefs. These suggestions are absorbed into the subconscious mind. Anything that doesn’t fit with a person’s knowledge base will be rejected. That is why hypnotist’s make many suggestions in each session so that at least 15-20% of the suggestions make it through to the subconscious mind so at least some change takes place. It’s also why you need several hypnosis sessions for serious problems and have to work with your hypnotists to tailor the suggestions to your liking. Stage Hypnosis Suggestibility Many hypnotists do imagination exercises before a stage show to determine which audience members are highly suggestible. If the person follows the imagination exercises properly (and meet some other criteria such as desire for attention) then a stage hypnotist will note these individuals to call on for the show. Ask most participants in a stage hypnosis show and they will tell you that they were aware of what the hypnotist said and felt motivated to follow along. If the stage hypnotist had said something that went against any individuals beliefs or values then the suggestions wouldn’t work. That is why stage hypnotists stick with silly suggestions like barking like a dog or clucking like a chicken as it is something any person would do when having fun with friends. Best part is that being on stage and ‘under control of a hypnotist’ gives a person an excuse to let go and act crazy. Many people are repressed or big attention seekers and these people are easy to notice and make perfect volunteers for a stage show. A stage hypnotist preselects volunteers through imagination exercises and body language long before any volunteers are asked to come on stage. Only the ones who showed the right character type for a stage show are selected from the raised hands of the volunteers. Hypnosis isn’t ‘hit or miss’ nor is it a ‘sure thing’ or even ‘mind control’. Many people have used hypnosis to quit smoking or lose weight but not all have succeeded. If hypnosis was mind control or a sure thing then everyone would be helped by hypnosis. So that myth is easily disproven by personal observation of the people who have experienced hypnosis. Of course, this leads to the belief that some people are ‘hypnotizable’ and some aren’t so a hypnosis session will either work or not work. This isn’t true either. Hypnosis is simply a state of focused concentration. Everyone can focus their attention. So hypnosis (and self-hypnosis) will work every time providing the person has no misconceptions or fears of hypnosis (i.e. they know they will also be aware and their minds can’t be controlled) AND they have the right attitude. There is only one attitude that makes hypnosis and self-hypnosis work That attitude is “I love this affirmation/suggestion and I want this change in myself’. If you focus your attention in a relaxed hypnotic state –with a genuine desire to achieve the change you are aiming for – then and only then can you re-program your subconscious mind with the new beliefs. Three attitudes that block hypnosis and self-hypnosis from working
"In a hypnotherapist's office, you can learn self-hypnosis. Don't worry, you won't lose control. You won't do anything against your will. "No one takes away our choice under any conditions -- no one can make you do anything you wouldn't normally do," says Jane Ann Covington, a hypnotist in Atlanta and founder of the Hypnosis Institute International Center for Developing Mastery. In hypnosis, you don't even lose consciousness, Covington tells WebMD. "If I said something inappropriate to you, you would either disregard it or get up and leave," she says. "You would react as you normally would." From WebMD's article "Hypnosis Goes Mainstream" A trip to a hypnotist 06/19/2010
The following is an extract of an article about a woman named Sandy Thorn who went to a hypnotist to help deal with her mood and food cravings. This article reveals a little about the hypnosis process. You need to be fairly intelligent to be able to apply hypnotic suggestions. Also the article shows how the hypnotist digs out key problems or attitudes in life that are triggering the mental states and eating habits that are not wanted. This allows a person to root out the causes of a problem and attain the state that they desire. Taking A Chance On Trance In a 25-minute interview designed to determine if I qualified for hypnosis -- drunks, persons with IQs under 70, and smart alecs don't -- Johns, 57, and Hand, 55, asked what I hoped to accomplish through hypnotism. I rambled . . . I longed to end what I called my stinkin' thinkin' . . . my all-consuming feelings of rejection . . . my "I'm not thin enough, not young enough, not smart enough, not pretty enough" mindset. Eventually, I got to the point: I felt this downward spiral of negativity, traced to my childhood with a hard-to-please unaffectionate father, played a critical role in my regaining 60 of the 160 pounds I had lost 17 years earlier. "And who assumed that role -- the role of the disapprover -- when your father died? Who stepped in and told you that you weren't good enough?" Someone did," Johns stressed. Baffled and increasingly uneasy in my moment-of-truth, I finally stammered, "Me?" Instantly, Johns responded, "Do ya think?" Bam! This was life as one of Chicago Hypnosis Center's clients -- who pay $125 to $160 a session (an average three sessions) to lose weight, stop smoking, reduce stress, manage pain, improve performance, eliminate a fear or who, like me, desire to halt the self-destructive practice of looking into a mirror and declaring, "I'm too fat . . . I'm too fill-in-the-blank . . . This is going to be a crappy day." What exactly is hypnosis? "Have you ever been driving home from partying or work and realized, wow, I'm already home. How did that happen? That's an example of being hypnotized," Hand answered. "It's like being in a trance. You go from trance to trance to trance without giving it a second thought," she continued. "In hypnosis, we can bypass the conscious mind's critical judgment and tap into the power of the subconscious mind," Johns explained. In a compact frill-less room, settled into a massive blue recliner, wearing earphones, I soon discovered just how uncomplicated, how comfortable, how magical this phenomenon called hypnosis is. Per Hand's instructions, I concentrated on a spot on the white ceiling -- a spot I selected at random -- while she counted from 1 to 10. I closed my eyes on uneven numbers, opened them on even numbers. Or did I open my eyes on the unevens, close them on the evens? It didn't matter. I was groggy; my eyelids were too heavy to open. Minus the stereotypical trappings associated with hypnotism in films, there was only Hand's calming voice reminding me to relax and to use my imagination as she taught me a self-hypnosis exercise designed to flush out my negativity, doubt, confusion, cravings, tension, angst, stress, and "all those things" I no longer wanted. "Notice how good it feels to be doing something so good for you," Hand reminded. She was right -- it did. I vividly remember Hand guiding me along two forks in a road, stopping at one, five- and 10-year intervals. One was an imaginary path of misery -- one in which I repeated the same self-defeating behavior I've chosen for the last decade -- and the other was an imaginary new path she invitingly called "the high road to success" in which I could choose to accept, honor and love myself. Near the end of our 30-minute session, Hand encouraged me to begin each day choosing to notice what's right with the day -- even on days when it's gloomy -- and to look into a mirror and tell myself: "I love you . . . I accept you . . . I'm in control . . . I'm OK." In the two weeks since my hypnosis, I've practiced those self-talks. I haven't eaten, craved -- or even missed -- the Ritz crackers, cheese spread and ice cream drumsticks that had become best friends attached to my hips. I'm exercising daily. I've lost six pounds. My nights of tossing and turning have ended. Thanks to hypnosis, I realize I control my happiness. Women with breast cancer have used self-hypnosis to “significantly” reduce their pain. It has been found that pain control with self-hypnosis improves over time. Study: Self-hypnosis is powerful pain-fighting tool Women living with breast cancer -- and others dealing with pain caused by serious illness -- may find a fresh pathway to feeling better, thanks to new research by a social worker at the University at Buffalo. The path is an alternative, but promising, one: hypnosis. Combined with group psychotherapy sessions, self-hypnosis in breast cancer patients dealing with pain helped the women control their pain levels much better over time, the research showed. Their pain increased "significantly less," in fact. The study, led in part by Lisa D. Butler, an associate professor in UB's School of Social Work, showed that self-hypnosis sessions by women with metastatic breast cancer -- a serious form of the illness, in which the cancer has spread beyond its original site -- combined with the group psychotherapy helped the cancer patients control pain over a period of time, compared with women who did not use the technique. Self-hypnosis means a state of focused alertness, awareness and concentration, combined with relaxation. ![]() The following news article is about the reactions of seniors who took basic self hypnosis training at the Wilton Senior Center. This news report covers some basic hypnosis myths and how anyone can use self-hypnosis for relaxation, weight loss, confidence, and much more. All you need is to focus your concentration on proper affirmations and positive thinking. (Image and news article is from here.) Seniors learn healthful benefits of self-hypnosis - Written by Joan Lownds Betty O’Shea always thought hypnosis was a theatrical trick that made people do things they didn’t want to. But the Wiltonian was pleasantly surprised after attending a seminar in hypnosis presented by the Wilton Senior Center. “It’s different and interesting,” Ms. O’Shea said. “Most people view hypnosis based on the stage hypnosis they see on TV,” said Sonia Katz, the seminar’s instructor. “What I teach is not like that at all. Self-hypnosis is really focused concentration and a positive step to improving the quality of your life.” Ms. Katz studied with Dr. Brian Weiss, author of “Many Lives, Many Masters,” and has taught the techniques for more than 40 years, she said. She provides both group and individual sessions. Her three-week workshop at the Senior Center, which ended last week, focused on the simple steps of self-hypnosis, aimed at “awakening the sleeping teacher inherent in all of us. It is a skill that can be easily understood and implemented into all aspects of your life,” Ms. Katz said. The process is aimed at achieving relaxation through “breathing techniques and guided meditation,” she said. Ms. Katz shows how to plant the proper suggestions in the mind in order to achieve goals. For example, she said self-hypnosis can be used to promote “relaxation, which boosts the immune system, or to help stop smoking or overeating.” First, calming breaths lead to a relaxed “alpha” state in which “suggestions can be planted,” according to Ms. Katz. To overcome destructive behaviors, positive alternatives must be visualized, she said. “When someone wants to lose weight and stop overeating, once they are relaxed, I tell them to picture two tables: one filled with desserts and one filled with fresh fruits. I tell them to choose the fruit,” she said. The emphasis is always positive, she said. “One of my favorite quotes is from Albert Einstein, who said, ‘Either live your life as if everything is a miracle, or as if nothing is a miracle.’” For the technique to be effective, “you have to really commit to it, and do it at the same time every day.” A former Florida Realtor, Ms. Katz said she became interested in hypnosis as a sleep-deprived young mother whose daughter never slept. “I would try to put myself into a relaxed state so I could get some sleep,” she said. She discovered the effectiveness of this technique and became intrigued by its resemblance to self-hypnosis. She is also trained in past life regression. “The mind is very powerful,” she said. “You just need the right tools Binaural Beats for Relaxation and Meditation 01/10/2010
Binaural beats is te name of a sound technology that uses two different frequencies of sound (one in each ear) to ‘entrain’ the brain to the frequency desired. Using this technology it is possible to go into deep relaxed meditative states in minutes as opposed to months of practice. To fully understand what binaural beats are and how you can use them, you need to first understand what ‘entrainment’ is and what we know about our brainwave states. Entrainment simply means to follow along. When you are listening to a piece of music that you like and you tap or hum to the music you are entrainment to the beat of the music. It has been discovered that your brainwave frequency will imitate the beat or rhythm of the music precisely. For example sitting on a beach hearing the soft splash of the waves will make you feel relaxed and maybe even sleepy. This is because the rhythm of the waves is low and your brain follows along with that rhythm so you slow down mentally. In the same way if there is lots of construction going on – even if you are somewhat sheltered from the noise – it will be irritating and may even give you a headache. This is because of the irregular rhythms and variations in sound volume. Your brain follows along but it’s following an erratic sound pattern so the experience isn’t soothing. The whole process of following along with external sound is called entrainment. The next thing you need to understand to know how binaural beats can help you concerns what we know about brainwave frequencies and how they affect your mind and body. What scientists have discovered about brainwave frequencies using EEG measurements devices is that certain types of behaviors correspond to certain brainwave frequencies. For example; if you are asleep your brainwave frequency will be below 4 hertz. If you are exercising or playing a sport your brainwave frequency will be above 14 hertz. If you are relaxing then it will be between 10 and 14 hertz. Meditation states also occur around 7 hertz to 14 hertz. The interesting part is that not only will these activities lead to the corresponding brainwave state but you can also induce the brainwave frequency to get to the optimal mental state for the activity you want to engage in. For example if you want to relax you can play some white noise and the sound of a babbling brook and it will help you relax to a level below 14 hertz. You can do this even more precisely using the sound technology of binaural beats. You can experience and utilize binaural beats for yourself at anytime using a free software program called Brainwave Generator. Learn more about Binaural Beats from Wikipedia. Affirmations for Self Hypnosis 01/08/2010
In the post on self-talk I explained how your internal dialogue influences your emotional states and is a form of self-hypnosis. One way to help you switch your internal dialogue from negative to a positive one is to practice affirmations. Affirmations are used commonly in many self-help books and has become a staple of modern business life for several decades. Yet it is still an underused method in our time. Using affirmations is easy and regular use can serve as a reminder to you to think positive thoughts. Affirmations can become even more effective when you use them in self-hypnosis. Just go to your meditative state and repeat your chosen affirmations to reprogram your subconscious giving you a boost in whatever self-improvement category you are focusing on. The rule of thumb in using affirmations is to focus your affirmation on what you want NOT on what you don’t want. If you say, ‘I don’t want to feel angry’ you are doing a negative affirmation. Notice that you are creating a thought or mental image of being angry in this affirmation. The result will be that your anger will stay the same of increase. Instead of saying, ‘I don’t want to be angry’, say ‘I am feeling calm and peaceful’. Notice how you create the mental image of being calm and peaceful just by saying those words. Also notice you are saying the affirmation in the present, i.e. ‘I am’ feeling a certain way. Not ‘I will’ because that assumes the calm and peacefulness will come to you in the future and not now. You can make the affirmation even more effective by stating it from the present into the future such as ‘I am feeling more and more calm and peaceful everyday and in everyway’. Notice how this focuses your mind on continuing to feel calm and peaceful into the future and creates the intention of increasing the calm and peace you want to feel The following are some affirmations you can use. When you make your own affirmations make sure you model them on the ones listed here or on the ones in the videos on this website. ‘I am feeling more and more confident’ ‘Everyday and in everyway I and feeling better and better and better’ ‘It is getting easier and easier for me to exercise regularly’ etc. Self-Talk and Self Hypnosis 12/25/2009
I’ve covered how hypnosis is a part of everyday reality. If you watch a movie it’s the equivalent of hypnosis as you are guided to experience the story. On the other hand if you are thinking a particular set of thoughts, such as angry or happy thoughts then you are doing self-hypnosis as your thoughts guide your emotional state. Now I’m going to focus on self-talk as self-hypnosis to put another perspective of how hypnosis works. In other words how you talk to yourself in your head – the thoughts you think – also create how you feel. In these instances you are doing self-hypnosis. If you do a lot of negative thinking then you will create a lot of negative feelings in yourself. If you do positive thinking then you will create positive feelings in yourself. You are basically doing self-hypnosis all the time. Suppose you encounter a problem and your thoughts are something like this: “Another problem! Why does this always happen to me. If people would just listen to me then these problems wouldn’t happen. It’s so irritating to have this problem interfering with my plans today” and so on. What you are doing in this case is negative self talk. In other words you are doing bad self-hypnosis. In the same way if a friend of yours is upset and tells you about their problem like this; “You know how when problems start and you feel helpless and you don’t know what to do and its as if everything is falling apart…” Then the friend’s negative conversation will create a negative effect on you (notice how saying ‘you know when’ makes you relate that other person’s negative experience to yourself). Of course it will only happen if you are following along and sympathizing with what you are being told. You will feel the negativity from your friend and you will feel bad. In the above situation your friend has unintentionally done bad or negative hypnosis on you. You probably get t he idea by now. Being in a negative environment, talking to yourself in negative terms (i.e. negative self talk) and having depressing conversation will all put you in a bad mood. In other words you become highly focused on a negative perspective. This is the same as being hypnotized in a negative manner. The reverse is also true. If you ever encounter a problem and think, “Oh a difficult situation! That’s OK. I can handle this like I’ve dealt with other negative situations in the past. I’ll just take a deep breath and imagine a peaceful scene, like a beautiful day at the beach. Now I am relaxed and ready to deal with the situation.” Notice how the focus of your mind is on a positive perspective. You become highly focused on a positive outlook to a problem you are faced with. In this case you are doing positive self-talk or positive self-hypnosis. Same applies to a conversation. If a person is upbeat and happy when talking to you and uses encouraging words, creating positive or empowering images – and you are following along. Then this conversation is effectively good hypnosis. Talking to a person is very similar to hypnosis. Some categorize it as conversational hypnosis. Learning how to talk in a way that both improves your own inner dialogue and how you talk with others makes you a good conversational hypnotist. If you are unaware of the power of words then you may do bad conversational hypnosis without even knowing it. Keeping all the ideas here in mind you realize how powerful your mind can be on your emotional states. Simply swithching the focus of your mind and your thoughts from negative to positive will change you entire outlook and thus your emotional state of being. In the last 2 articles I’ve shown you how hypnosis is simply a state of highly focused attention. Which is something we all experience in our everyday lives. The only difference is the words we use to describe our experiences. A hypnotist will use technical words that makes hypnosis sound mysterious and unusual. The history of hypnosis and the name of the system of therapy named after the Greek God of sleep also contributes to the image of hypnosis. With these concepts in mind we can begin to make an outline of our experience using the scientific terminology of hypnosis to take control of our minds so that we control our thoughts and emotional states. If we do this then we have more control over our lives and can be happier and more successful in our day to day live. When you have understood the processes of hypnosis and self-hypnosis and done some practice you will be able to do self-hypnosis anytime, anywhere providing you with greater control over your life and your interactions with others. |
