White Light Visualization for Relaxation and Stress Relief

Visualization uses the same mental faculties as daydreaming. It’s something that everyone can do. Visualization is daydreaming with focus. Whereas in daydreaming there is no goal, it’s just a pleasurable fantasy, in visualization you imagine what you want to achieve. An artist will ‘see’ his final work and so will a sculptor or a businessman. Even athletes use visualization. In fact, visualization has become an important part of training for professional athletes in all sports.

As stated by a sports psychologist, Richard Suinn PhD, in the magazine Psychology Today, “Modern sports psychology, which dates from around the early 1970s, is focused on psychological training, on exercises that strengthen the mental skills that will help athletic performance. Those skills include stress management, self-regulation, visualization, goal-setting, concentration, focus, even relaxation.” (Article: Helping Athletes Go For The Gold )

Visualization in sports is very precise. An athlete has to visualize performing every action and reaction with finesse. However, this audio-video is not a precise visualization but a general one. The suggestions focus on visualization a white and light surrounding you and filling your body. The idea is to vividly imagine white light to gain the relaxation and stress relief (even pain relief!) that such imagination brings. It is well known that colors affect consciousness. Dark, gloomy colors bring your mood down while bright, vibrant colors improve your mood. In meditation white light visualization is said to reenergize the mind and body. In fact, visualizing white light is commonly used by psychologists for lightening up a patient’s mood and even to help cancer patients control their pain.

There are many physiological and psychological benefits of a white light meditation. To properly experience the following visualization remember to use stereo headphones, relax completely and visualize vividly. The more effort you put into your imagination the more you’ll get out of it.
